We have an exciting opportunity for a GIS Analyst to join our team in supporting the day to day GIS requirements for a major state organisation. This role will shape and contribute to key projects that have sustainable impact on society and the environment.

While Compass develop across all GIS platforms, this role will be partiuclarly focused upon Esri ArcGIS software deployment and configuration in the marine environment. Open Source GIS, FME, Python Coding & MS SQL Server experience will also be highly relevant.

We are fortunate to work with great organisations that operate within sectors such as Marine, Agriculture, Environment, Planning and Utilities. You will have the opportunity to build long term relationships with these organisations.

You will have regular daily contact with senior colleagues and senior client managers, business users, ICT system owners, and likely with government policy makers.

You will work within a collaborative and highly skilled technical team who deliver spatial analytics, business intelligence and much more. You will have a strong background in Geographic Information Systems and excellent experience in the use of spatial data in problem solving and workflow driven applications.

Importantly, your project delivery style will be flexible and adaptable. You will have strong and concise communications skills and be able to raise and deal with issues in a respectful and reasonable manner.

Whilst a full time appointment is preferable, applications for a shorter working week will also be considered. Please note your preference on your application.

This role will be a hybrid mix of onsite with the client in Galway and home working. Office based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin is also an option.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

Essential

  • Excellent spatial analytical skills and an aptitude to applying analytical skills to problem solving across relevant sectors such as enviroment and transport
  • Strong experience in configuring and deploying Esri AGOL GIS Solutions
  • Strong experience in spatial analysis techniques using SQL and Python scripting
  • Good IT literacy and with scripting/programming experience.
  • Good presentation skills and strong attention to detail, reflected in high quality mapping outputs
  • Subject matter expertise in one or more sectors such as marine, environmental, transport, and/or utilities applications of GIS
  • Ability to work within a team environment and under own initiative to achieve project goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Technical (Essential)

Demonstrable skills in the following:

  • Desktop GIS for data management, visualisation, spatial analysis etc. (ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, QGIS or similar)
  • Ability to automate standard GIS processes using scripts and tools (e.g. Python, ArcPy, FME)
  • Configuration and support of WebGIS applications (e.g. publishing of data services, configuration of Esri AGOL/WAB technologies, GeoServer/MapServer experience)
  • Understanding of WebGIS components and their connectivity (e.g. open source, Esri or similar)
  • Spatial data management, ideally using SQL databases or similar
  • Coding experience using Python, SQL, R or similar

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Tableau etc.
  • Experience in Earth Observation / Remote Sensing techniques
  • Project management skills including potential team leadership
  • Experience in defining user requirements for GIS applications
